Scenario 18: Using Turkish translated captions with international participants
Level: Beginner · Tools: Microsoft Teams live translated captions; Teams Premium or Microsoft Copilot license.
Who and in what situation
Elif, who works on the export team of a machinery manufacturer in Manisa, wants to follow an online meeting with a distributor in Almanya without missing technical terms. She plans to use a caption layer that everyone can read while participants continue speaking in their own languages.
How it is done today
Elif has to ask for some sentences to be repeated and writes down the terms as she remembers them at the end of the meeting. Without live translation, she also confirms decision statements separately in the chat.
How to do it with AI
- In the meeting controls, go to More actions > RTT > Turn on and turn on the Live Captions toggle in the RTT panel. [6]
- In the RTT panel, select More options > Open caption settings; set Meeting spoken language to the language being spoken. [6]
- Under Translate to, select Turkish or the participant’s preferred language. Turkish is included in Teams’ list of supported translation languages. [6]
- After the meeting, compare the technical terms in the captions against the contract, technical specification or presentation; confirm critical decisions in writing.
Example prompt
Use the translated captions from the discussion on {Meeting topic} to track decisions. Preserve technical terms as they are; mark sentences with unclear meanings as “translation check.” Do not generate decisions, owners or dates that were not mentioned in the discussion.Evidence and real-world example
No independently published company case study was found; Microsoft’s live captions documentation explicitly documents the Turkish translation option and the RTT path in Teams. [6]
Points to consider
Teams does not save live captions; if you want a permanent transcript, transcription must be turned on separately. [6] Microphone distance, background noise and people speaking at the same time can reduce accuracy. [6] Since the edition and language table for translated captions in Google Meet can vary by account, do not assume Turkish is supported there. [50]
