Scenario 67: Checklist for an NDA and regulatory note

Level: Intermediate · Tools: Microsoft Copilot Chat, Copilot in Word; licensing and organization settings affect access [119] [14].

Who and in what situation

Onur is on the compliance team at a bank in Ankara. He prepares a preliminary review note for the legal department using the NDA to be shared with a technology supplier, the internal checklist and the relevant official regulatory text.

How it is done today

Onur reads the three documents separately and manually records which clause each check is based on. He rechecks the regulatory summary against the current text.

How to do it with AI

  1. He adds the NDA, checklist and official PDF using Upload images and files or Attach cloud files via the plus button under Message Copilot > Add and manage sources [119].
  2. For the NDA, he asks it to produce only a “present, absent, unclear” status for the headings covering parties, confidential information, exceptions, term, return-destruction and breach notification.
  3. For the regulatory PDF, he separates the document name, article/section and brief meaning; he does not allow it to add external rules.
  4. In Word, he drafts the two-page note with Copilot Dynamic Action Button and works with Chat only without changing the documents [55]. A legal professional checks the original texts.

Example prompt

Use the {NDA}, {internal checklist} and {official regulation} files. Classify the NDA headings as present, absent or unclear; specify the clause or page. Summarize the regulation using only the attached official text. Do not generate rules, propose provisions or make a final compliance decision. List the questions for the legal professional to verify.

Evidence and real-world example

No published customer case study was found for this combination. Microsoft documentation explains attaching files, asking questions about content and producing a first draft in Word [119] [55].

Points to consider

ABA states that AI output may be incorrect or fabricated and that legal professionals should verify it independently [127]. OpenAI also states that output cannot replace professional advice [128]. Access and retention in Copilot Chat depend on tenant policy [120].
